Koguriyama Mokujiki Kannon-do

Smiling Buddhas carved in 1803 by Mokujiki Shonin, an itinerant monk who lived during the Edo Period (1603-1868). There are 33 kannon statues, a statue of the Gyoki Bosatsu, and a statue of Daikokuten enshrined in the Kannon-do.

Nishiwaki Residence

This was a residence of the Nishiwaki family that supported the political and business circles in Ojiya. The building retains the distinctive features of a wealthy merchant’s residence from the Edo to Meiji periods. Visitors are welcomed to stroll through the Japanese garden that changes in each of the four seasons, with fresh green in spring and red leaves in autumn.

Jigen-ji Temple

This is the place where peace talks took place between Kawai Tsugunosuke, a samurai in the Nagaoka Domain who brought petition from the lord, Iwamura Seiichiro, Tosa samurai and a commander of the West Troop, or new government army. The Kaiken-no-ma, or a place of the conference is preaerved as it was at that time. There are also paintings of battles and other related items stored at the temple.

Ishokutei Tochu

The 3-story, long-established Kappo restaurant continuing from the Edo Period (1603-1868). The Ume-no-ma room, where Kawai Tsuginosuke had lunch after the conference with the new government army, still remains. Nationally registered tangible cultural property.
